3D Printed Guns

Video on Alan Gottlieb who released the CAD model to the AR-15 lower into public domain. Now anyone with a 3D printer (about $1200) can make a functioning receiver.

Technology marches on. With a CNC machining center and the program, just press "cycle start" and away you go.

Gottlieb's telling comment: "When everyone can make their own gun, gun control becomes meaningless."

I'm sure the government will start to ban blocks of 7075-T6 aluminum, the raw material for the AR-15 lower.

No, then they just turn toward regulating barrels rather than receivers. Try and make one of those with a 3D printer (.22lr not included).

You can 3d print barrels for some other cartridges now, just not with the sub $5k printer. Might not be too long before that changes.

Also, the video is not about Alan Gottlieb. He is mentioned in the article as Cody Wilsons legal representative in a case.

I don't see 3D printers making barrels for anything .380 or more powerful; not now not ever. .22lr, maybe even .25acp - maybe.

Unfortunately, the .Gov is taking a different slant - banning the programs under ITAR restrictions.

Speculation on the subject includes having to get your post to a thread approved by .Gov censors so that critical information won't be distributed to foreign terrorists thru the internet.

Make your own suppressor? Change barrels on your AR? Where the line will be drawn seems unclear, but there's a much bigger fight coming up. This isn't a legal interpretation of renting a CNC program to machine your 80%, it's a much larger suppression of how to do a lot of things. It's an assault on the 1st Amendment to prevent you exercising the 2d.
