39 years since my last Savage

homesick

1972 was the last time I owned a Savage and that was a 110 P in 06 very pretty rifle but didn't shoot very good. I've been on the brink of buying one for some time but just couldn't dig out the wallet, till yesterday. I bought a model 12 BVSS 22-250 I have a T/C pro hunter in a 22-250 now that is a 3/4" gun. All you Savage owners speak so highly of how they shoot so I'am gona give it a try. It will probably get a 16 power Leo as I have had it for some time and it's very reliable. I am really excited about this one as I've heard and seem some very impressive things from Savage.

I can't explain why, but today Savage has some of the best rifles out there as far as accuracy, I have three of them (223, 243 & 270) and can not complain about any of them. Either I am very lucky or their QC on the rifles have become outstanding.

I just bought my third Savage rifle. My first was in 1966, the second in 1982, and the third in 2011. All of them were exceptionally accurate. Savage has always had a reputation for accuracy, not necessarily for cometic finish though. I've owned, or currently own, a number of Remingtons that look a little better but don't shoot any better, or in most cases, as well as the Savages. I don't think you're going to be disappointed. FYI- my new Savage in 243 is shooting sub .5 inch groups with select handloads (five shot groups).

Savage is a pretty good value for the accuracy and quality you get. You can buy a Savage in a good selection of calibers and get a nice scope with the money saved and be ready to hunt with them.

I picked it up today and put my 6X18 Leo on it. As soon as it cools off a bit I am gona start dumping some powder. My loading room is in the back of the garage so it gets a bit warm down there. Should be able to punch some paper in the next day or to.

My 2nd batch of handloads through my Savage 10 FCP (.308 Win) found one that warrants more experimentation. Later I added a cheek piece. Other than that, it is stock from the factory, except for the optic.

The dime covers all 5 holes.....:D

I went to the range today with my new model 12, shot 6 3 shot group test loads all looked well under an inch. You can't believe this but it started to rain, blow, and hail, by the time it was all over the targets were gone, and the range had 4" of water on it. I ve been in central florida 15 years and have not seen any thing like it. I wanted it to cool off a bit as it was 91 degrees when I got out there when I left it was 67.
Guess it's time to start over :)
From what I could see all the groups were well under 1"

Super....sounds like you got a keeper....even if the targets were lost in the minor flood. :D Gives you another reason to go back and have some more fun.

Post up some pics after you do.

I am a little weak on the techno about posting pictures but I'll see if I can have my son help me. I am about to go back down to my man cave now and redo some loads. ya just gotta love it.
