39 Spl-357 Mag loads for cowboy action shooting

Hello I am thinking of getting into Cowboy action shooting. I have a Ruger Vaquero and a Rossi 1892 which is a good start for CAS, but I can find little about reloading for the sport. What bullet weight, what powder do most people use for both pistol and rifle?

With a name like Vstrom you must be a motorcyclist.

I just started shooting CAS, two matches under my belt. Of course, they shoot lead bullets; you probably knew that.

At my first match I brought some 158 grain SWC standard to plus-P loads. Most folks seem to shoot lighter bullets, 125 grain seems pretty common but some shoot 115 grain or even 95 grain bullets in the .38. Not that's light. The round nose flat point seems to be most popular, I suppose because it feeds well from the tubular magazines of the lever rifles.

I bought a box of 500 125 grain bullets and loaded them pretty light. If you go to Hodgdon's website, look for Clays powder you will see load data.
 
125 grain RNFP bullets and 4.0 grains of Red Dot powder (or Promo.) If your revolver shoots low with this load, try 158 grain bullets with 3.5 grains of Red Dot.
 
Do you habe the 357's yet? If not I'd consider 45 colt especially if you reload. I almost traded my 45 for a 357 awhile back but when I discovered reloading and how cheap it is to reload for the 45 I'm glad I didn't!
