.380 - Bersa or FEG?

My buddy is new to handguns and looking to get a decent, inexpensive .380. I have a Bersa .380 and a Makarov (in 9x18) that he has shot and he likes them both, but prefers the mag release on the Bersa. I told him that he may also want to look at the FEG-380's. I've never shot the FEG, but I've handled a few and they seemed to be a decent gun for the money. Are they worth looking at? How do you think they compare to Bersa?

Thanks.

I think that they are close enough that it wouldn't matter which was chosen.I personally like FEG's and want you to know that it is mostly the Browning High Power clone FEG's that have the gritty trigger that so many people complain about.

Tossup. I "think" the Bersa is lighter, so I'd go with that.

I've got the older FEG that's all-steel. Its a nice pistol, but heavier than it needs to be. Its a good shooter, though, and easy to carry.

I've shot the Bersa, and it also shoots well. Lighter weight is the tiebreaker.

The only other point I will add to the very good advice given, is price and availability. The Bersa's are going up in price....they are becoming more popular. The FEG as stated is an excellent gun, yet they seem hard to find in some areas. They are typically less money than the Bersa. It just depends on what you can find....
Shoot well

My Friend had a 380 Bersa and the slide broke in half and shot forward of the gun. The gun was brand new and had 20 rounds rounds though it. I saw this and couldn't belive it, and Bersa wound up fixing the gun for free. The metal looked like "white metal" - like something a cap pistol was made out of. I have not considered a Bersa since then. The other gun I am unaware of.

I bought my wife a Bursa Thunder 380, 7 shot, 3 years ago and after several 1000+ rounds the Bersa looks and fires like new.
Upon take down and cleaning it shows very little wear.

It is also a very accurate gun. Alot of this has to dobecause of the fixed barrel.

Bersa for sure, although FEG isn't a bad firearm either. I haven't heard any malfunction complaints about Bersa other than the one mentioned above.

What Glockorama said!!!

9X18 is more firepower than .380 but I like both rounds for conceilment purposes. FEG also makes a walther knockoff .380 I've got both and like them both. Haven't had a Bersa, heard good and bad about them as you can see from the posts.

i have a feg smc 380 and it very rarely has any problems. it is also quite accurate for what it is. i have small hands so the tinygrip does not bite me, but watch out if you have big hands. im in the process ofsending back a friends bersa 380. the front of the cartridge made a big burr onthe feed ramp after about 75 rounds.

Also Consider CZ

I have a CZ 83 (.380) I like very much. It is a nicely made gun. I also have dealt with the Bersa and it is a nice inexpensive gun.

Also, I know Gregg at Comp-Tac make a great Kydex holster fort he Bersa.

I have an FEG pa-63 (early version 2 tone alloy frame) in 380. It has never jammed on me (knock on wood) but arguably I don't shoot it as much as my other pistols. Its has one seriously gritty DA pull but it shoots to point of aim and it eats any ammo you feed it. In these little guns I prefer hot loaded hardball (like fiocchi). The PA 63 should handle east european steel case ammo with ease, not sure the bersa's extracor is up to it.
