.380 ACP With Xtreme 100gn RNFP

Hi all,

I have been using Xtreme bullets (http://www.xtremebullets.com/) for all of my target loads for a while now, and want to see if anyone is using the 100gn RNFP for the .380

I don't shoot too much .380, I have a Walther PPK/S that sees little use, I just have it because, well, everyone wants to be James Bond occasionally. :D

It's getting to the point where I need to replenish my stock of .380 bullets, and naturally went to Xtreme, and want to buy these:

http://www.xtremebullets.com/380-100-RNFP-p/xc380-100rnfp-b0500.htm

The problem is that I cannot find much about loading a 100gn RNFP. I typically use mid jacketed data for my plated rounds, and these would be no exception. However, all I can find is data for a FMJ-RN, not a flat point. The length of this bullet has to be different than the FMJ-RN, thus affecting the COL I would need to load to. Does anyone have any experience with these Xtreme 100gn RNFP bullets that could point me in the right direction? Or even better, a load that works for you?

If I can get some good info, I will be buying these bullets, I just want to keep it safe, and keep my gun in good working order (plus, keep my fingers on my hands, haha.)

Here are the powders that I have on hand:

Accurate No. 2
Accurate No. 9
Alliant Power Pistol
Alliant Bullseye
Alliant Unique
Alliant BE-86
Hodgdon HP-38
Winchester AutoComp

Does anyone know a good target load with any of these powders and the Xtreme 100gn RNFP so I can keep the PPK fed?

Thanks,

Kyle

380acp load

I load for the Bersa, CW380 and Glock 42 using xtreme 100g rnfp. I use ww231 which is the same as HP38.

I set my oal at .958 (which will vary .955 to .961) and load 3.2g of powder. These shoot great in my pistols and cycle the slides with no fte. I found that the Glock was the most difficult to cycle, that is why I ended up at 3.2. I did not want to make differant loads for each gun just to plink and target shoot with. Most manuals today show a max of 3.1 and the Bersa as well as the Cw380 will function at 3.0 of ww231 powder but not the Glock. The older manuals I have show a max of 3.6. Guns today must be easier to damage. (lol)

Hope this helps.

firecaptain53,

Thanks for the info. That is exactly what I was looking for; a recipe that is known to work. I think I will be able to get away with 3.0 grains of HP38 (this is what I used to load under 95gr FMJ, and it ran the PPK just fine) since I know that the PPK is not as difficult to make cycle as the G42 (from what I have heard, anyway).

I appreciate the help, Stay safe and have fun.

Kyle

OAL is always bullet AND firearm specific. You need to find the max OAL for your pistol then reduce for function.

This is from our Moderator Unclenick. #3 in the chart will be your Max. Once you find that OAL, reduce as needed for function.

If you are going to meter/dump your powder charges be very aware that some of the powders listed will not meter the tiny charges required for the 380 very well.

I can get 231/HP-38 to meter 3gr constitantly out of Harrells powder measure, but it took the addition of a small vibrator.

Alliant Unique, Bullseye, and the rest of the Dot powders, forget it, they will have to be weighed or scooped.

If you want easy consistent metering without any vibrators or other hassles, Use you Accurate #2. It will meter like water and shoot great.
