38 super for Bowling pin shoot?????

i've got a chance to shoot some pins next week and since my dot sighted 38 super racegun works well for most stuff i'm thinking about shooting some 160 gr SWC at them--what i'm looking is a hot load for the 160 gr SWC that i can shoot in my fully supported barrel.....Anybody ever loaded such an animal???????

thanks in advance----Dick

I shot pins for about 16 years til Second Chance shut down a cpl years ago. I can honestly say, I've never seen a 38 super be competitive. It lacks power/momentum. One guy I remember quite well used ot empty his gun each time at every table and cleard maybe 50% of the time. Dont want to discourage you but thats my experience!

I too found bad experience ONLY with the wonderful .38 Super. I used to shoot pins with mostly law enforcement, back in the late 70s and nearly all of the drug enforcement and undercover guys used .38 Super Llamas. In fact when I see someone with a .38 Super Auto -- I eventually check to see if they are in international narcotics intervention or international undercover police work of some other kind.

It seems that the undercover LEOs I've met use .380s and .38 Supers and .22s mostly.

As a result we had dozens of .38 S shooters in our group of over a hundred pin shooters. The .45s and 9mms, in that order, were the usuall rulers. Now, I wonder what a Tokerev would do?????

I've had more that a little success with 158-gr. loads out of a .357 moving at 1,200 or so fps.

That gives a power factor of just under 190, which is more than enough to be competitive on pins.

I've never seen .38 S loads that heavy, but you might be able to get something close with handloading.
