It seems to me that the .38 Super is almost, but not quite the equal of the .357 Magnum and the .357 Sig, making it a very potent round indeed. I am considering purchasing one of the new Kimber .38 Supers. Does anybody know what ammo is factory produced in .38 Super? I am aware of the following:
UMC 130 gr FMC
Winchester 125 gr Silvertip
Corbon 115 and 125 gr JHP

Please list any others...

Yes they still make it...the loads I mentioned above are available and currently listed on the respective manufacturer's website. Wilson Combat makes magazines for it. And Kimber makes a new gun for it, although I have forgotten the model number for it (SE something or another). My question is what other loads are commercially loaded for the .38 Super. Everybody please list any you know. I am interested in practice ammo and carry/self defense ammo.

The 38 supah is ok for a gaming round but it isn't my first choice for a carry / self-defense round. Most of the 38 supah useres seem to reload their own to get the bullet and velocity needed for their particular game. If you are looking for a 9mm something for carry in a full-size pistol, you may wish to check out the 9x23 winchester. Check out Dane's homepage for info on this esoteric but interesting round

Thanks h_tolley, but not interested in the 9x23...interested in .38 Super...if you look at the ballistics, it is nearly every bit as capable as the .357 Sig or .357 Magnum...its velocities are less than 100 fps slower with the same weight bullet...now back to the original question...what factory loads are available for the .38 Super for both defense and practice...thanks

You're aware of all of em.You'd get a lot better result rolling your own-you can tailor what ballistics you want to your specific gun.

Colt made a whole bunch of .38 Supers in recent years as part of their "EL" series. I bought an El Cen model on impulse and shot it quite a bit.

One can buy .38 Super in the white Winchester box or PMC stuff, both 130 grain FMJ. Dies and components are also easily available through mail order houses if you want to reload.

Thanks for the input...I know I can load my own, but I am really interested in what I can buy off the shelf...I hate to be restricted to handloads only and I would never carry a handload for self defense. It looks like there are plenty of FMJ practice loads out there, but a very limited number of JHP defense rounds out there. Winchester 125 STHP and Corbon 115 and 125 JHP is about all I can find. Anybody know of any others? I could not find anything in a Speer Gold Dot, or a Federal Hydrashock, or a Remington Golden Saber, or a Winchester SXT, or a Hornady XTP, or any of the other major brands of modern hollowpoints.

I could be wrong, but I was told that you can fire 9mm Largo from a 38 Super.

The Winchester 125 STHP is probably the best choice in defensive ammo for the Super. The CorBon loads I have tried had enormous flash, plus blast and noise on a par with the hottest .357 magnum loads. I am also not enamoured with their quality control in the past (sorry, Terry).

Remington used to have a 115 grain (?) JHP load using their old style bullet with a very round ogive (for positive feeding in guns made to feed hardball only) and a tiny hollow point. I still have a partial box somewhere that is at least 10 years old, and Remington's latest catalog doesn't any Super load except for the UMC FMJ round.

Thanks to all for the info...have posted this ? on three other forums with nowhere near the response. I am new to this forum, but I think I'll stay awhile if responses to ? continue this well.
