Just a few quickies here. Can a 38 Super be converted to 9x23 Winchester with a simple recoil spring swap? What lb. spring would be required? Does the extractor need to be adjusted for reliable function? Thanks alot, folks.

I don't think it can. The case diameter of the .38 Super is larger than the 9mm- the 9x23 is just a longer 9mm Luger so there would be way too much case expansion.

Just got a few good answers from Gunspot, thought I'd share them here with any interested parties. 9x23 should work well in a 38 Super- apparently the 9x23 was designed specifically with this purpose in mind- to make a "38 Super improved". A tight chamber may need to be reamed, the extractor may need to be adjusted depending on performance. Recoil spring should be 16-18 lbs. This info comes by way of Richard Heinie, and several other learned 9x23 afficionados. I'm looking forward to trying it out; the spec's for the cartridge are very competitive: Winchester 125 gr. silvertip @1450 fps, jsp at 1470. I'm very relieved to know that the conversion is not as frought with danger and expense as I had originally suspected. Everyone has been very helpful and informative. I love gun people!
