.38 SPL Groups

Hi all....I was just wondering what everyone considered "acceptable" groups for a 2" snubby .38 SPL
from 10 yards ???

I did a little practicing tonight ....fired a 3.5" group from ten yards with my Taurus M85

I felt ok with this but wondered if this was good enough...should stop a BG tho !!!!

Thanks

I have a 2" S&W m12 made in 1962 that, from a rest and single action, will put 6 rounds in one hole at 10 paces. That said, when I practice defensive shooting I use a blank piece of typing paper at 15 yards and if I keep all my shots on the paper, shooting as fast as I can, that for me is "acceptable".
YMMV

Try this range drill. Put loaded revolver on shelf with muzzle downrange. Do ten pushups. Stand up. Do twenty jumping jacks. Pick up revolver immediately, keeping muzzle downrange. Aim and fire two to five shots. Simulate stress and extra blood flow, and practice to deal with it.

Well, I have never done the pushup routine, but I can keep about a 2" group at that distance firing double action with a 3" Chiefs.

Jim

P.S. At 69, if I did 10 pushups and 20 jumping jacks, I don't think I would need to worry about the group size, but my wife might have to worry about collecting the insurance. (But I think a BG should not count on me being so stressed out as to miss.)

And while you are doin Chipster's drill, use a playing card or a verticle strip of duct tape on target. CNS hits.

Dragon, you gettin there just fine. Double action ?

Sam

If you shootin in a dirt patch, fun drill that sharpens up the double action shootin is to line up a bunch of empty shot shells
ten yards out, Odd colored one in middle. Two shooters side by side, start at the ends and shoot toward center, miss and have to re shoot that empty. One who gets center one wins and gets to set em up again. Use at least ten on a side so a reload is required.

Like Jim, I don't do jumpin jacks, but quit gettin excited too.

try it from holster to firing...........

I practice by drawing from the pocket, aiming and firing all five rounds as quickly as I can pull the trigger. I try and keep all the shots in an 8" circular target at 7-10 rounds. Normally, I can keep'em in there but there's always room for improvement

Thanks for the replies so far and keep em coming !!!

I am picking up some new things to try...they will definitly make my practice more fun.

Sam yes I was shooting double action...my trigger pull on the Taurus is very "gritty"..thinking about getting this touched up a bit this might help my groups some
