38 special ctg

could someone help with dating a 38 special ctg can't find a model number .the serial number on butt is k 98xxx

The .38 Special CTG is a cartridge. Not a gun.
CTG is an abbreviation.
You'll need more info.

what info do you need only other numbers on revolver are 9 above 44108 with 8 below its a 4inch barrel blued fixed blade front sight adjustable rear sight the top plate is groved like the strap between the grips where else would i find info

Six-shot?
The serial is OK, but isn't necessarily the final determinant of the exact model.
The other numbers are assembly numbers, if it's a Smith.

With the cylinder open, do you see a Mod and a number on the frame just below the barrel?

If it's a four-inch, six-shot, adjustable-sighted revolver you've probably got a K-frame Smith. Does it say Smith & Wesson on it? Other makers had CTG as part of their caliber stampings on the barrel.

Given the above info, we can narrow it down to one of 2 models, either a model 14 which was the 38 target masterpiece, or the model 15, which was the 38 combat masterpiece. The SN of K98XXX automatically makes it a K frame, 6 shot revolver, 5 screw (since K98XXX is approx 1950 or so production) with adj sights.

Well given it has adjustable sights, K prefix SN on butt, I'd be very surprised if it was not a S&W.

It does appear to be a K-frame, as I said, but you never know for sure about the Spanish copies.
Doesn't hurt to confirm.
