I have a Smith and Wesson 38 Special, Model 10-5, Serial # 75016, bottom of butt stamped D1185XX. Can anyone tell me how old the gun is and the retail assuming the gun is in 'Good" condition? Thanks in advance.

D1185** is the actual serial number and mfg date is 1969-1970 range (per standard catalog). Value depends on condition and the current average range is $350-450.

I am assuming that the #75061 you mentioned is seen when you open the cylinder. If so, it is an assembly number stamped on the crane and has no meaning once it leaves the factory.

Age somewhere between 62 and 76. Someone will give you a more exact date.

"Good" condition is half way between wall hanger and LNIB. $200 up to $400 depending on where you live and who you're buying from.

I have the same model, SN D2232XX. From the 2nd post, likely from the early 1970's. They're nice guns if they've been properly cared for.
