Hey guys,

I need a bolt action .38 special rifle for about 700 dollars or less and I was wondering if you could send me an info page on a rifle thats in that caliber and is in that price range.

Thanks,

The Ruger 77/357 is out there. I have one and have been very pleased with it's performance. I did replace the sear with one from Volquartsen to improve the trigger pull a bit. I paid less than $600 for mine.

Some folks early on reported trouble with magazines, but mine has been problem free (I have three mags) and I haven't seen a "trouble" post in awhile.

Most folks who have them have been happy, and there are number of folks at the Ruger forum who regularly shoot .38s with them.

Mine gets a pretty steady diet of 158 JSP magnum rounds and it hits where I point pretty easily. I have a 1.5x-5x 32mm scope on mine. Don't really need more for my shooting (usually inside 100 yards).

yup

The Ruger is the only factory option. With Ruger's current bean counting mentality, I'm betting that this number won't last long. Is it even in production now?

I have a 77/357. Fun little rifle. They do seem to have gone up in price some though. I only paid a little over $500 for it a couple of years ago, and now they are going for over $700 around here. Dont know why the jump though.

Mine seems to prefer 125 grain JHP's and doesnt like 158 grain LSWC's in .38 or .357.

The mag handles 357's without issue, the .38's have a habit of "rim locking" on a fairly regular basis. Once that happens, you have to drop the mag, and fiddle the rounds out.
