Hi All,

We mentioned this a while back and I finally got around to trying these two out. The loads were discussed as possible self-defense loads with the 158 LSWCHP +P being one of the top carry loads. The 148 BBWC as loaded by Atlanta Arms would seem to duplicate the Speer load mentioned by Mr. Dodson at http://www.firearmstactical.com .

My concern was penetration or lack there of. I had a hard backed book (surplus) that seemed thick enough to stop both loads.

I also used a Master Cartridge 148 WC to see what the difference is/was.

Each designated spot on the book received two shots each. I used Avery labels to designate impact areas.

Exacts aren't important (unless your attacked by a old textbook) but the 158 penetrated the most. With-in 90% was the 148 BBWC (FMJ) as loaded by Atlanta Arms, the 148 by Master penetrated only about 50% as far.

I'll still carry the 158 loads, but if I have someone that has a problem with recoil, the 148 by Atlanta Arms seems to be a viable option.

Next test - if I can organize a deer or small game I'll field test the two side by side.
