.38 +p

Hello Everyone.

I recently purchased a small Rossi .38 revolver
for my Mother. The gun appears to be in like new condition, I think it was a great deal. My question is, would it be safe to fire +P ammo
with this gun? I have no manuals or knowledge of what this gun can or can not handle. I'd appreciate any advice. :)

Detailer take it to your local gunsmith or gundealer and have him look up the model number before you try +ps. If it's a snub nose your mother may not want to shoot +ps. They give back a lot of muzzleblast. But be sure THAT specific gun is rated for +p ammo. I had a rossi once and liked it.

My mom's .38 is loaded with the 158 grain lead, HP, semi-wadcutter standard pressure loads. These perform werv well from all barrel lengths without excessive blast and recoil.

MOST IF NOT ALL OF THE OLDER

SMALL FRAME ROSSI REVOLVERS ARE NOT +P RATED. NOT SURE ABOUT THE NEW ONES BUT I WOULD'NT USE EM IN ONE.

Yeah, I just went to the Rossi site and it specifically says the ammunition for all of their
pistols is stamped on the side of the barrel, and do not attempt to use anything else. I would take that to mean load as well as caliber. Mom will have to stay away from the +P. (she wanted the "baddest bullet you can get")

Hi Detailer,

I own an older Rossi .38 snubbie. It's at Tamara's favorite gunsmith getting a trigger job right now, and when I took it in, he specifically told me "Do NOT use +p ammo with this gun".

I do want to make a suggestion for a carry load, though:

You mentioned that she wanted the "baddest bullet she can get".
Your mom will be well-protected with a Rossi snubbie stoked with RBCD's.

Unless you've got armor-piercing incendiary rounds in .38 spl, these are the juice.
