.38+P in Detective Special...whoooo

 After having taken my newly aquired Second Gen Detective Special to the range over the weekend and today, I don't know that I would even want +P rounds in it. That thing would flip out of my hand. The gun is so small the recoil even for regular .38s is pretty hard (but managable). (I'd hate to see what would happen with .38+ps in an airweight  ) A good little backup and pocket piece it is. I just load regular .38 Hydrashoks in it and am ready to go :) I'll leave the hotter +P loads for my Police Special

How does anyone else handle +P in such a small gun?

Pretty good snap back?

Wow!

I'm surprised your gun is so hard to shoot with. I've never fired a Colt, and I would like to, but your review is a bit harsh. Shooting +Ps with my Ruger SP-101 feels no different than regular 38s.

On my DS I fire my +Ps last and then only a cylinder full just to remember the POI in relation to the sight picture so that I can roughly determine where the carry rounds would hit at roughly the same distance as practiced.

In a typical range session, the handguns I bring get a minimum of 200 rounds each, but not the Det. Spec. because the trigger eventually bangs my finger up a little after about 75 DA shots even with standard .38 Specials. These things were never meant to be shot in extended sessions.

Maybe I am too naive to know any better, but I've taken my new S&W .38 spl Airweight out three times since I purchased it several weeks ago. Although I can tell a difference when firing the +p's, my performance is identical with that of lesser loads.
