358 win rechambered from 35 rem??

Can a 35 rem be rechambered to 358 win?? the two look very close with the 358 win a tad larger(longer) . Bases also look close. Are 358win pressures too high in a mod 8/81 remington?? Marlin 3:confused: 36? thank guys. Jiminthecorner
 
With teh exception of the 760 remington and a very few 35 rem bolt guns, I cannot think of any suitable for rechambering to 358.

The 336 and the 8/81 are definite no no's for that conversion.

I agree with SamD - especially about the Remington 8/81. The pressure of the .358 Winchester (52,000 cup) is far higher than the ancient .35 Remington (35,000 cup).

However if you want .358 Winchester power from a Marlin 336, you could have it rechambered for the .356 Winchester which is basically just a rimmed .358 Win.
 
I don't even think I would do a rechamber for the 356 in a Marlin.
There was some reason for Marlin to quit making them and it was too early in the run for it to be a market effect.

The reason Marlin stopped chambering the .356 Winchester is because Winchester decided to stop producing the round - along with the .307 Winchester - and no one else wanted to load it. If the Model 1894 Winchester could handle it - the Marlin 336 darn sure could!
