357 sig out of a 1911 style gun

Para P16-40

Converted one withan Ed Brown narrel. More accurate than the .40, but A LOT less accurate than my .45s. Nice, fun gun to shoot, in the P16, there is minimal felt recoil for the 124gr @ 1180 fps. (146pf) Don't know about hot rodding beyond that, tough. Luck, Walt

With a pistol designed for longer carts, a 1911 .357 Sig wouldn't be the best use of available materials. A 9x23 1911 would make the greatest use though. From similiar barrel lengths with the added case capacity of the .357 Sig, I'd bet that it was running as hot if not hotter then the 9x23 no matter what the pressure difference is (40Kpsi vs 50Kpsi).

I recall reading an article a few years ago on a .40S&W BHP that was converted to .357 Sig by I believe it was Novak. The .357 Sig 124gr XTP was chronoed at 1470fps from the BHP.

There was an atricle in Combat Handguns with a G20 converted to .357 Sig with a Jarvis barrel and the 124gr XTP was clocked at either 1460 or 1490fps. I believe it was the lower #, but I'm at work and can't get to that magazine right now! ;)

I agree with the above. If you're looking for a .357 sig in a 1911 design, you're better off going with a 9x23.
