.357 SIG fun to shoot!

I have shared before on TFL that I am very new shooter,
and that my son and I are shooting our way through a
local range's rental inventory. I took an NRA "FirstSTEP"
pistol course with him in December- that was the
first time I'd shot since shooting a .22 bolt action
rifle 35 years earlier.

Friday night we shot a SIG P239 .357 SIG, and it
and had a blast. It was the most fun of the various
pistols we have shot. Part of that was the pistol,
and part of that was the caliber. The previous favorite
was a SIG P226.

The recoil was not an issue. Not because I'm so big
and bad, but because it doesn't see to affect where
the shots go. The P239 seemed very accurate in my
newbie hands, even more accurate than other pistols
with longer barrels.

I just wish the ammo wasn't so expensive. I have to
buy the ammo from the range I rent the gun at, and
it's almost twice as expensive ($15.95/50) as the cheapest
9mm ($8.95/50). That takes the cost of the two of
us shooting on a Friday night from $35 to $50. Darn.

At any rate, that gun in that caliber is a whole lot
of fun!

Do you rent the gun from your local range munir? That's what I have to do at the range here, I hate it. But I don't really have much choice, it's either the 10 min away-range or 1½ hr drive outdoor range. :P  :eyesroll: ;)

ClownFish, I do rent from the local range. I'm very
new to shooting, and I figured that shooting my
way through their inventory made more sense than
buying. Glad I did- at first the recoil of the .40
bothered me. If I'd bought a pistol in the first
couple of months, it would have been a 9mm. Since
I've been shooting for a little while, the recoil
of the .357 SIG was fun, and not a problem. I guess
when you're starting out a little bit of experience
makes a big difference.

cccammo.com sells 1000 round lots for 170.00 shipped ups ground (@5 days). good stuff!!!!!! It's all I practice with...

Siggy, that sounds like a goo deal. Unfortunately, I think that as long as I am renting, I need to buy the ammunition from the range I'm renting at. My latest thought is that I'll probably be renting for another six months to a year. When I'm ready to buy, I'll look at the price of .357 SIG ammo at that point in time, and get a .357 SIG if the ammo has come down enough in price (maybe a .40 otherwise, if .40 ammo is cheaper).
