357 sig barrel for Beretta 96D slide?

I've been toying with the idea of buying a .40cal barrel/slide conversion for my Beretta 92FS. Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket(or factory?!).357sig barrels on the market????

Also, is the .357 sig dying? I mean, will it be around in quantity(for us peasants) say, 5-10 years?
Thanks in advance!

Yes there are aftermarket 357sig barrels for the Beretta 96 Fedral Arms , Jarvis, Barsto, are a few that come to mind. One Question Why are you going to use a 96D slide as opposed to a 96fs?

BLAHH! My bad, I had just read a list of Beretta gun parts and that stuck in my head.

Do they make ported ones with normal rifling?

Beretta does not make a .40cal conversion from a 9mm. you are not supposed to do that; the only way to change from 9mm to .40 is with the Combo kit. I believe there is some part of the gun (forgot which) which will not let the .40 work reliably on the 9mm frame.

if you get a .40 and want to convert it to .357sig thats a different story. there are aftermarket barrels made as Glock Raider
stated.

but beretta does not make a .357sig barrel yet. they make the Cougar in .357sig though. beretta is currently testing a 96 with a .357sig barrel to see if it will hold up to the extra power. they are especially worried about the locking block. I've shot a 96 converted to .357sig, it was pretty cool.

well actually IIRC its not a part. its the way the frame is shaped.

beretta 92 series guns barely have much of a feed ramp. this is because the magazine goes up really high in the grip. well anyways if you look just below the feed ramp you can see this little cut in the frame. it looks almost like a continuation of the feed ramp onto the frame.

well i've heard that on the .40cal models this cut is bigger for the bigger .40cal bullet to feed properly. so you can put a 9mm upper on a .40cal but not vice versa as i understand it.

if i'm wrong by all means flame away. :-)

Well then, that would just mean that it wouldn't work with Hollow Points.(ball would work just fine IMHO)

Wouldn't the 357 sig still work?????

If they make the Cougar in 357, can I get a conversion barrel for my 8040?

I didn't know that Beretta made a .357 Sig Cougar! Anymore info on that, like where I might find one. Durability, reliability, etc?

Deathwish, good point. i guess the .357sig would still work. but .357sig hollow points have a bigger HP cavity than 9mm HPs so i don't know if that would work as well.

PreserveFreedom, i don't know but i doubt you could find it. its a new gun and i don't know if they're making extra barrels. call Beretta USA on the phone and ask them. i don't know if the new .357sig cougar has any built up parts like glock did to thier .357sigs.

Claemore70, they've been out for at least a month or 2 i think. i would assume they are at least as reliable as other cougars and the bottlenecked .357sig round can only help reliability.
