357 Maximum

4198 is too slow for a straight wall case that size. 4227 is about as slow as you can reasonably go. QuickLOAD shows a 180 grain bullet with the case filled under it 100% would only reach a little over half the allowed MAP (Maximum Average (peak) Pressure). Out of a 10" barrel over a third of the powder is still unburned when the bullet exits. That's why you don't see loads for it. Gross waste of powder burning very dirty from lack of pressure and likely risking the loads squibbing out and sticking a bullet in a revolver.

If I remember correctly I'm doing 18-19 grs. of 4227 under a 180 gr, cast w/check. Also loading a 200 and 210 cast w/check on top of 4227 but can't remember the load. In a Ruger revolver in Max, 4227 is one of the the top best choices. Coogs.
