.357 desert eagle magazine question

A bit of an unusual question for you Desert Eagle owners. I just bought a .357 revolver and thought that taking a 357 Desert Eagle magazine and riveting a spare belt clip from an old nylon holster on to the side of the magazine would make a compact way of carrying spare ammo around the woods instead of those bulky loop cartridge carriers. I could just reach down to the magazine attached to my belt and pop out the rounds I need. My question is since the 357 has a rim around the case are they difficult to extract from the magazine once it is loaded up? Are they as easy to extract as the standard sem-auto rounds such as 9mm, 45 ACP, etc. are when loaded in a magazine? Thanks

The only real problem I see that would be a problem would be if the rim of the top cartridge in the mag is behind the rim of the round below it. Bolt action shooters who use a rimmed or semi-rimmed cartridge are a bit more familiar with this.

Due to how the cartridges are inserted into the DEP mag, however, (or for that matter, any mag from a semi-auto rimmed cartridge gun) it is nearly impossible to load the top round so that the rim is behind the one below it. So that problem is essentially a non-issue. The top round, though, is a bit easy to eject with a little pressure from the rear so it would probably be a good idea to have the full mag stowed securely away so that nothing can eject the top round by accident.

Your idea sounds pretty good. Sort of like a magnum PEZ dispenser. An alternative would be those rubber strips that hold rounds in a line.

Interesting, I like the PEZ comparison.

Cheaper solutions would be rubber ammo strips or half-moon cliops.

They will thumb right out and with a bit of practice it is faster than speed strips.

Great for pocket carry of spare ammo.

Rather than riviting a clip on a rather valuable mag, why not use a mag carrier . Just like a speed loader carrier only thinner.

Mag carriers also available in lots of places.

I agree with CR Sam. If you want to use a magazine as a dispenser, I would suggest one of the cheap after market magazines since reliability isn't an issue. When I had a Desert Eagle, I seem to remember an after market mag that held 10 rounds. DE mags are not cheap.
