Can any of you tell me which Oregon Trail 158 grain bullet is the more accurate out of a S&W .357 M19. The round nose flat point, round nose, or the wad cutter? Thanks very much.

I've been shooting a 150 grn LSWC since the mid 70s (Lyman 358477) and have been satisified with the accuracy.

Lately I needed some 38s and didn't have time to case ingots then bullets so I bought a 500 pack of 158 RNFP's. I was quite impressed with the accuracy.

Also they are faster with Speed Loaders then my SWC's.

They warrant a further investigation.

I`ve got all my moulds dropping at least 359 bullets & the sizer is 3585"

I`d say the correct size is more important than style , of course the range ya gonna shoot em at & at what comes into play as far as style .

Wadcutters don`t fly to good past 50yds for me .

The heavier bullets will fly straighter further, we used to have a truck rim to shoot at , max yds. was 650 alot of fun seeing how handguns dropped & learn to "walk" em out & get a hit . We mostly hung around 250 yds though.

I cast the Lee 158 rnfp & it shoots in all my 38 caliber firearms , wish it was flat based though!

My experience is that you will get as much variation from gun to gun, even within the same model, as you will going from one bullet style to another. There is no way people on the internet can tell you which bullet will shoot best in your gun. Buy a box of each, load them identically and test them on 3 separate targets.

Then you can come back here and tell us which bullet design YOUR gun likes best. That won't mean which bullet will shoot better for any of us but it will be interesting to hear how your experiment turned out.
