I don't have notes handy here, but recall that when initially testing various ammo for mine, about 8 out of 13 "jumped the crimp" to one degree or another. I do recall that Winchester Silvertip in .357 was enough to be scary. Unfortunately, some Gold Dots in .357 moved as well. I do recall those two brands in particular because I have some new (expensive) partial boxes still sitting around! Did not get to test any Corbons.
Due to vicious recoil and shot recovery time, what I settled on for now (since testing back about January/February) is Gold Dot .38+P 125s and/or Federal Classic .357 125 JHPs.
FWIW, my 340 is currently keyed up with 3 of the Gold Dots +Ps, then 1 .357, then 1 CCI shot load. One shot load is kept in gun this time of year to be able to back up one notch if needed for a snake, which we have lots of where I commonly hang out. About Novemeber, I'll likely go back to keying up with 3 +Ps and 2 .357s.
In any event, be sure to read and heed what S&W instruction manual says about testing whatever you may want to run with. Greatest probs obviously with unjacketed bullets, but mine was not limited to them. Hope this helps a bit. Regards, Greybeard
