.338 Lapua vs. .338 Remington UM

I am looking into a rifle for long distance/sniper wannabe shooting and wonder how these two calibers compare. On paper, the Lapua seems to have better downrange ballistics, but that's only with factory loads. Can .338 Rem UM rounds be loaded to match it? Also, the Rem is probably cheaper and more plentiful, but a match grade rifle seems tougher to find. Any input? Pros/cons?
