.320 buckshot for inline pistol

I just bought a Cimmeron arms co. .32 cal inline pistol and since Hornady
does not make .320 buckshot anymore has anybody tried Ballistic products
buckshot. Hornady was made with 3 % antimony and Ballistic is 6 %. Is
that too hard to use as a patched ball? Would like to know if I could before
I order some? Or does somebody have some that they would be willing to sell?
I will try to get some pictures later today of my new pistol.

.320

Not trying to be hard nosed or anything, but you appear to be asking two separate questions.
Are you going to shoot buck shot out of this as in a shotgun
or are you going to shoot it as a single shot patched round ball?

In several articles I've read you can go up to 10%. But personally i would not. Uberti's and Pietta both say to use pure lead.

Traditional Black Powder weapons don't use the hardened steel smokeless use.

If PRB you don't want buckshot.
You want an actual lead round ball. probably about .311 in diameter if it is a 32 cal. but you might find .310 .315 balls also, then a .010 to .015 patch.

does your owners manual say anything about the purety of the lead?
I may be looking at the wrong place, but I went to cimarron f.a. co website.
They don't show your weapon there. they show .31 and .36 cal. no 32.

It is an inline target pistol made by the Cimmeron gun works not imported by
Cimmeron arms. The bore is .323 and I will be using a patched round ball.
I guess my question was is 6% antimony round ball too hard to use? Trying
to find somebody that has tried them and how do they work. Do not want to
buy 8 lb of them and then find out I cannot use them for target work.

Thanks

What does the manual recommend

The bore is .323 and I will be using a patched round ball.

Kindly excuse my lack of experience with this pistol but shouldn't you be down in the .310, .312 or even that .315 range, for a PRB?? ....
There is a competition shooter in this forum that is really up on these and he should be along, in a moment. I can't recall his handle. ... :o

Good luck and;
Be Safe !!

A .32 would need a .310 ball with a patch and the ball can be as hard as you want it. With a patch it wouldn't matter if it was a steel ball bearing but I imagine accuracy wouldn't be very good with them. There was a guy on another forum a few years ago using marbles with pretty decent accuracy.

%

Pure lead is still recommended.
Even though the patch will "cushion" the ball as it is compressed into
the rifling, the ball still has to give.

And as before. based on the specs .310 up to about .315 for the ball diameter.
Rest of clearance is adjusted by patch thickness.

Also several articles over the years suggest you can go as high as 10% alloy.
So 6% should be fine.

But you still need to keep that lead ball in the right dimensions 10 to 15 thousandths under caliber sizing. to allow for patch thickness.

I do take exception to the ball dia compared to bore dia. Back in the early
70's when I started shooting competition with muzzleloaders the rule of thumb
was use a ball of bore size and patching thick enough it would leave weave
marks on the ball where the lands and grooves were. Of course you had to
clean between shots but if you wanted to compete against the best that is how
you loaded to get best accuracy. Some of the shooters that have competed at
Friendship will verify what I am telling you. Now that was with Douglas barrels
with deep rifling, I do not know what others are doing now. I belonged to the
same club as Chuck Blender and shot against him every month. If you don't
know who Chuck is check the NMLRA record books.

Hello Charlie

Phil here. I have a pistol just like yours. The maker of these lives about 225
miles east of me. See him several times a year. Your barrel was made by Mark
DeHass who lives about 65 mules north of me. You want to shoot the "0" Buck
ball. Anything else will be too loose . I bought several boxes of Hornady "0"
Buck when I was at Friendship this past June. Sold it all at our local club. Those
who have tried the other maker of "0" Buck have said it shoots well. I looked
at some and checked them out and I would say to use them. I am lucky enough
to still have about 40 5 lb boxes of the Hornady. I bought it when they were
closing it out for 10.00 a 5lb. Box delivered. Free shipping. My wife won the
National Pistol Championship at Friendship 5 times with her 32 Lightning.
She won it another 5 times with her now Mouzon. She had to give up the Lightning because it got too heavy for her. Bad rotor cup. We have both the 45
barrel and the 32. By the way , the current record at Friendship set in 2005
by my friend Marvin was with Hornady "0" Buck in his Lightning. He only
dropped 22 points out of a possible 600. That record I really believe will never be broken. So you want the "0" Buck and a .010-.015 patch damp with a
water soulable oil & water mix. I would be happy to give you some. As for a
powde charge, use anywhere from 15 grains up to 20 of FFF. Either Goex or
Swiss . We use 15 grains of Swiss. You got a good pistol there and they will
shoot. Wife shot a 100 with 7 X's with her's , and I shot a 100 with 3 X's.
This at 25 yds. If I can be of any help just let me know. We bought our Lightning
back in 1991. Good Luck. Phil

Wife shot this 100 with 7 X's with her Lightning

Had me make it into a T-shirt for her. The guys at the club get a kick out of it.

Charlie, I know Chuck. talked to him in June. I remember the 49 he shot at 50 yds offhand on the little six bull target. I have known him since back in the 70's

Phil, thanks for your input I was hoping you would have some imput on the Balistic buckshot. I didn't know if it would be too hard.
Another shooter contacted me and said some were using it in their .36's at Friendship and it works OK. I will start at 15g of 3f
as you suggest. Thanks for your generous offer, I will PM you with my address for the round balls
I started shooting at Tom Pikes Fort in Ohio in the late 60's. There were a lot of good shooters that shot there every month. Many of them were Friendship winners. You had to be on top of your game to beat those guys. I remember shooting a 50 at 50 yd on the 100 yd
bull on one of our 2 day shoots and Chuck was the first to congratulate me even though I beat him. Time passes and it is just a memory
now. Anyway thanks for your input I will send a PM. By the way when I got the pistol home and I looked at it the gun had never been
fired. I had a .36 Yazel but did not like feel of it, shot OK but did not fit my hand. I never liked the 41 Smith I had either. Thanks again.

I had HaroldYazel make us one but wife & I never could shoot it either. Just don't fit our hands. I like you have a Ruger Mark ll hand . I use Rob Lewis pistols
and wife uses the one made by John Mouzan. Everything we have is in 32. I was
meaning I could give you some of the patch lube I don't have any of the Balistic
brand as I have 25,000 Hornady. I sent you a pm.
