32 mag revolver

I was looking at the gun store the other day and saw a S&W 32mag revolver. Does anyone have experience with this pistol?? What do you use for a carry holster?

For my fellow S&W boycotters. It's used.

Any Info would be appreciated.

Ti or alloy?

What model - a 632, 631 or the new
ones?

Anyway, I found the Ti ones to have some stiff recoil given their light weight and not particularly advantageous over the 642.

The SS and alloy ones would be milder.

However, ammo is expensive!!

Unless, you had a particular reason, I'd stay with a 38 SPL.

I own a couple of 32 Mag revolvers, a Smith and a Ruger Single Six.

If you reload, the 32 Mag can be a fun toy. If you do not, it can be a PITA to find ammo.

The only practical considerations for a 32 Mag SD weapon is the advantage of having six rounds ready vs five in 38 Sp. Also the 32 recoils less than the 38, if this is a consideration.

I have a few J frame Smiths and made a direct comparison between similar guns in 32 and 38 -- I carry the 38 <s>

If a 32 Mag is your only carry gun, you have nothing to be ashamed of, but there are better calibers for this purpose.

I guess it does have a place now as good .32 revolvers are hard to find anymore. But they still do not have the poop of the old 32-20 in a revolver. I would not trade of a good .38 for one thats for sure.

It is a Ti model. Very, very light. Seems like a great summer carry pistol. i will probably pick it up. Any carry suggestions? I ususally carry IWB. Any holster suggestions?

Yes - you can get the very very light
342 in 38 SPL also with a more powerful
and cheaper to shoot round but will you listen - NOOOO! :)

Anyway, before you spend big bucks on a pocket holster, try an cheapie Uncle Mike's for the J frame. They work just fine.

I am not shure but I think you can also shoot 32 S&W Long in that gun, which if you can it will broden you ammo choices. Persoanlly I load my 32s with DBWC No Expansion but max frontal area.

Second the recommendation of the Uncle Mike's pocket holsters. Best $7 (or maybe it was $9? don't remember) I ever spent.

You should think about how you're going to carry reloads. Speedloaders are bulky for the kind of carry that these revolvers suggest. Speedstrips are slowish but better than loose rounds. And (you knew this was coming) you can't get speedstrips in .32!

Danny O, in my opinion of the S&W Ti's in the short barrel the 32 H&R mag mod 331 or 332 is the best choice.(if it was the 3in barrel i might go for the 38) you get six rounds of dam near the same accual performance of the 38 with much, much less recoil and muzzel blast.(the 38spl looses all its power in the short barrel/blast) this makes for much faster and CONTROLABLE follow up's. you can target with 32S&W shorts of longs if you want.I carry federal 85g 32mag jhp's, which you can order through a dealier if not kept in stock. my guy always has 5-10 boxes. 20rd boxes are 9.00 and 50rds are 16.00. the only advantage the 38 has is the ammo is usualy available any where that ammo is sold, but I see no reason why the dealier you buy from will not get you the ammo and keep in stock. I have 3 types of carry for the gun,in pocket in after mentioned uncle mikes pocket holster (works very well) cross draw in a iwb leather holster, and some times I drop it in my waist pack. you will not be dissapointed if you get this gun for summer carry.

I have a S&W 331 in .32 H&R magnum. It weighs about 11 oz. The recoil is less than the .38+P's yet has comparable muzzle energy and better velocity. Rounds from Georgia Arms are about $12/50 in JHP and are hot enough for defense. I also have a titanium .38 Spec. I like both of them but can control the .32 better. Either will do but I believe the .32 has the advantage in a fight- more rounds and better control for quick follow-up.
