I have a six shot .32 revolver with the words "VICTOR" and 32 S&W CTGE stamped on top and "H&R Arms Co., Worchester Mass USA on the bottom of the grip. The numbers 63891 appear on the front of the grip. Any info you can give me re this gun would be appreciated. Also, can I put.32 S&W shorts or longs through it. Thank you.

.32 revolver

Hello:
Your revolver will shoot either .32 auto ammo or .32 S&W long. It will not shoot .32 H&R Magnum ammo as this came later.hope this helps.regards, Hammer It

Hold up! Your VICTOR is a antique cast iron revolver. DO NOT use 32 ACP (auto) in it. Standard 32 S&W (short) ammunition is fine. I replied to your other thread also.

The .32 S&W cartridge is SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than the .32 S&W Long; it's doubtful that .32 Long would fit in the cylinder.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU FIRE .32 ACP AMMO THROUGH THIS GUN!

Use ONLY .32 S&W ammo in this gun.

William,

Cast iron? Are you sure it's not maleable, or wrought iron?

Made before my time. LOL I always understood that most older H&Rs, IJs, H&As and others of that price point were made of high quality iron castings. What type and how they were formed I have no solid sources on, just hearsay. The frames were most often nickel plated. It did dress them up but, I believe it was the best protection they had against rust of the iron frames.

Those frames were a fairly good quality cast iron called wrought iron, not the cheap pot metal use in some guns (1920's Spanish revolvers, cap pistols, etc.). Nevertheless the only ammunition for the .32 is the .32 S&W, sometimes called the .32 S&W Short. .32 S&W Long, .32 ACP, and .32 H&R Magnum are definitely OUT!

Gents. Thanks for the input on the ammo for my H&R .32 S&W. I will NOT put .32 ACP through it. But I read that H&R made two frame sizes for the .32 S&W. The medium frame was a five shot revolver that could shoot .32 S&W shorts only. The large frame was a six shooter that could handle both .32 S&W shorts and longs. Mine is a six shooter and I have put .32 S&W (aka "shorts") through it. But the .32 S&W longs do fit in the cylinder. But for safety reasons, I am reticent to shoot them until I can get a definitive answer. Can you elaborate. Thanks again.
