32 ga diameter and steel cased Baurnaul ammo?

Two unrelated questions:
1. what diameter (caliber) is a 32 ga shotgun?
and
2. I see Barnaul (sp?) makes steel cased shotgun shells. Anyone had a chance to use these. Seems to me, that besides lasting forever, the reinforcement of the steel case (vs plastic) may keep wear and tear down as it contains some of the pressure so your receiver wont have to deal with it. Any ideas on that?

A 32 ga pure lead ball is 0.526" in diameter. It would weigh 1/32nd of a pound, roughly 218.75 grns. A 32 ga shotgun would be slightly smaller at the muzzle depending on the degree of choke.

The only Barnaul steel hull shotgun cartridges I've seen were .410 buck and slug loadings intended for the Saiga .410 AK derivative. I'd tend to agree with Conorach in that they would be rough on the gun's extractors/ejectors. Probably tough to reload, too.

32 Gauge was once popular in Europe. Occasionally a 32 gauge gun (usually a double SXS) comes up for sale in one of the Double gun magazines. Another oddball gauge is 24 gauge.

The Vintagers, a SASS like group that shoots only SXS guns, has a yearly competition for SXSs'. They have a competition for oddball gauges including the 32 GA.

Fiocchi also makes 32 ga ammo.

32 and 24 gauge were eclipsed by the 28 gauge.
