The other day I was talking to an old friend I have and he says he used to shoot 32acp ammo out of a 32 long revolver. We went back and forth and he swears he is right. He says he and his friends used to do this to get more power.

Has anyone heard of this and is it safe or even possible?

Yes you can do it. The .32 acp is semi-rimmed so it works fine in a .32 revolver. It's a fairly common practice and I've done it myself. I don't know about the "more power", both cartridges are rather underpowered. You can get a wider variety of bullet types in the acp. The rim is thinner so the headspace may be a little bigger.

I think the .32 S&W Long is more accurate in the revolver but it is expensive and not always easy to find which is why some people choose to shoot the more available .32 acp.

I have heard of this working through a 32 H&R and 327 Fed but not 32 S&W long! I did not know it would work in 32 long and does this mean it would work in a 32 S&W?

What's your definition of "work" ?

Are you asking, "will it go bang and send a bullet down the barrel?"
If so, then yes, it will "work."

It's over pressure for the handgun you are attempting to fire it from. Better to try it with a .32 Mag or .327 Fed Mag, both of which are rated to withstand a higher pressure than .32 ACP is loaded to.

Yes, I meant will it fire without damaging the shooter or the gun and it sounds like you answered the question. I don't think I will shoot a 32ACP through my 32S&W H&R revolver! :)
