I shot my .31 Remington through a Chrony today and the results were impressive. Puts to rest the myth that it's just a toy.
Shot 1: 908.5 fps
Shot 2: 966.0 fps
Shot 3: 1005 fps
Shot 4: Err1
Shot 4: 1029 fps

Average: 977.3 fps
Average muzzle energy: 106 ft/lbs

All chambers were loaded with 12.5 grains of PNF2 black powder and a .323 round ball.

You might want to give 4F a try. Others will probably soil themselves at the thought, but .31's hold so little powder that I doubt the pressures will be too much.

Also, if conical molds for .31's were more readily available, that would make them quite a handy little gun.

PNF2 grain size is considered 4fg, although it is marketed here as 3fg. Maybe that's why I'm getting much higher velocities than everybody else. I use it in my .44 too, but I haven't chronographed it yet.
