I just heard that all 31 cal pocket nickle plated Remington's,are brass framed ,I looked on Dixie arms site, and they state that it is a nickle frame, who is correct? any history would help greatly:cool:

I own one and the nickel is a plating over brass. It's a fun shooter, but eventually the plating will wear and show it's true colors.

both ways?

I believe they are piettas,or ubertis, hell who else made them, are the brass frames worth a dam ?I knowyou cant convert them, but do they shoot loose with a 20 grain 777 load?

20 grains of T7 in a brass framed .31 is way too much IMNSHO. 10 to 15 would be more reasonable. Hodgdon doesn't list a load for the .31 on their website.

Some were steel frame,,,

No more than three years ago I bought a steel frame .31 Caliber Remington pocket revolver from Cabela's,,,
I made a shoulder holster for it and gave it to a good friend for his birthday.

I know they were once out there,,,
I don't know where to buy one now.

My rule of thumb for a brass frame revolver is to keep the load at one half the caliber size or less. A .31 brasser max load would be 16grs of BP. So 13-14grs of 777 (it's 15% hotter)would be a max load for a .31 brasser.

Nickle over steel 1863 Remington Pocket

Madcratebuilder,

Who produced the nickel over steel 1863 that you have? Armi San Marco originally produced the 1863 in brass for CVA. As far as I am aware Pietta is the only one still makeing these. My nickel plated one is on brass. If you have one plated on steel I'll have to add this to the list.
