If we're talking about the Savage 99, the value is in large part dependent on where you are. Here in central Louisiana they tend to languish in the racks. I passed on a nice example with the brass cartridge counter for $400.00. The pawn shop guy sent it to a shop in Missouri and he got almost $600.00 for it.
I'd have given $400.00 for it if it had been in a Savage caliber, either 250 Savage or .300 Savage. As it was in .308, I passed.
