.308 Win. Federal Fusion 150 gr.

Have any of you shot any .308 Win. 150 gr Fusion ammo? I bought 8 boxes of it the other day to use hog hunting. I was running low on my typical hunting ammo (168 match), did not want to make the time to load more, and did not want to shoot high dollar ammo at hogs. Anyway, I went to my range and shot it in the Ar-10. It averaged 5/8 inch at 100 yds. That is the best that rifle has ever shot. My best handloads do not shoot any better than that. So, I decided to run the Fusions through my tactical rifle. It shot a 3/8". The absolute best this rifle will do is 1/4" groups. To get that, I have to use hand prepped, neck turned, weight matched, Lapua brass. 150 Fusion ALMOST matching by best handload. I then ran some through a TC Venture. 3/8" groups.

Anyone else shot this stuff? I can honestly not believe how accurate the stuff is in my rifles for cheap ammo. None of the above rifles will shoot those groups with any factory loaded match ammo I have ever run through them.

Federal Fusion ammo shoots 3/4 inch in my .270 Winchester. With handloads it is a solid 1/2 rifle. But not sure where you live, but Federal Fusion isn't exactly cheap where I live. When I first bought the Fusion it was $20.99/box now its $28.99/box

I used Fusion in my .35 Whelen this year. Shoots OK (but I don't have any rounds down this barrel with other ammo to use as a reference). I shot a box or two out of one other caliber I had (but I can't remember what caliber - but I do remember being pleased).

Reynolds- That is some good shooting. Although I have never purchased store ammo for any of my rifles or pistols, I must ask. Your hand loads- Did you ever load 150 gn?. Maybe that is just what your rifle likes more than the 168's.
My Savage does not like 150's that much. Shoot's them ok, but she shines with 175's. Been wanting to try 190's or heavier now too.

I've never shot the .308 ammo, but I've shot lots of the 30-06 ammo. When I had my old Browning BAR it wouldn't shoot anything well except the Fusion. The Fusion ammo was pretty accurate in it, but it was the only ammo I could get to shoot well so I shot a lot of it. Imo it's good ammo, performs well on animals, and just is a great round. I just wish they'd offer the bullets as components.

Do mean to tell us that Federal Fusion bullets are Speer Hotcore, or Grandslam? Perhaps you could be more specific about that? Where did you hear this? Not an unfriendly challenge, but I would like to know with greater confidence.

At one time (around 2010), Speer sold them as the Fusion. Graf and Son sold them. I have not seen them available for several years now, but they were available for a brief time. The Deep Curl and the Fusion are the same type bullet. Several years ago, not sure about now, the Deep Curl was the non boat tail version of the Fusion. Yes, Speer DID (do not know about now) sell both of them as components.
Neither the Fusion nor the Deep Curl is a true jacketed bullet. They are plated bullets. They are extremely cheap to produce, but perform like the most expensive "bonded" bullets.

Didn't know speer stopped offering them sorry been a few years since I loaded any speer bullets. Like reynolds 357 said they are deep curl bullets with a boat tail. Looks like you can still buy them from a couple online sources advertising them as "pulled" bullets. Pretty cheap too.
