.308 range capabilities vs. barrel length

I've tried search but came up with little.
What would the capabilities (velocity, range, etc.) of a 16.5" w/1 in 11" twist bbl be compared to a 20" w/same twist. (Any bullet weight differences would be appreciated as well)

Maybe this will be of some help. At the last AR15.com Las Vegas shoot we chronographed some British Radway Green .308 ammo out of a standard M1A (22" bbl 1:12 twist) and a H&K 91 (18" bbl). The British Radway Green was about 180 fps faster out of the M1A muzzle than the H&K 91 muzzle.

The .308 with ball powder was designed as a package, to be near-max with a 20" barrel. Most rifle cartridges have the optimum results with 26" barrels.

FWIW, the degradation in velocity is roughly 50 ft/sec/inch from whatever beginning point is offered in the reloading books. 26" is the standard for published velocities of factory ammo, unless otherwise stated.

Hope this helps, Art
