i just bought a 308 norma magnum caliber bolt action rifle. bolt is based on mauser design and action by FN (Belgium). The problem is that i am having tough time finding the cartridges and i guess i cant inter change with 30-06 cartridge. I have no clue about the cartridge.

Not a commercially popular round. If you're not into handloading, it's going to be hard to find a good supply of ammo. There may be some off the shelf ammo available, but you'll have to look for it. Maybe http://www.ammoman.com
might have some, or http://www.cheaperthandirt.com

If you're handloading, you'll be able to get supplies in several places, http://www.sinclairintl.com
for starters. Search TFL for "Reloading supplies" . There's an awesome post that will give you tons of other web sites you can look at. Sorry I can't remember the specific post at this time.

Call Sierra's tech hotline, (1 800 223 8799). They can give you some idea of the characteristics of your new toy, although I'm at a loss as to why you bought this rifle without knowledge of the cartridge. Not that I haven't done this myself, but...

I think what he was referring to is the Internet Shooting Directory. They have just about every manufacturer listed you can think of. http://www.pla-net There's loading info in the manuals. Performance is about the same as .300 Win Mag

slightly off topic...

I asked this question in another post, but didn't get any responses, so I thought I'd try here. I saw a Ruger 77 in .308 Norma Magnum in a gunshop recently, but wasn't aware that Ruger had ever chambered any rifles in that cartridge.

Does anyone know anything about that? Seems like it might have some collector interest.
