308 Core-Lokt's

Looking into finding my fav low budge hunting ammo in 308 and wanted to pick up some core-lokt. Got some great deals on Nosler stuff but it's wild outta my 700.

I've been snooping around the online retailers and it seems there's a ton of 308 core-lokt (180 gr flavor at the moment) but there are several different sku's for what appear to be the same ammo. I'm seeing RT27844, R308W3 & RT21479 that are all advertised as 180gr PSP core lokt. What's the diff, if any?

There are two varieties of 180 grain Core-Lokt ammo. The difference is the nose of the bullet. One is a roundnose (RN) and the other is pointed soft point (PSP.)

I figured that was correct, I thought there were 2 diff noses in 308, but I'm looking at a couple sites that indicate they're both PSP.... isn't the PSP a pointed soft point and isn't there only one type? The PSP was what I'm lookin' for BTW.

I have used both psp and round nose cor-lokt. I like the psp better and like the cor-lokt overall as a cheap but good hunting bullet.

I guess I'm just gonna go with who's got it cheapest to me... gonna try both the 180 and 150 and see which gives better group.

Prolly gonna throw in some Super-X as well to round it out. Really looking for any sub $20 factory hunting 308 that gives the best group, then stocking up.

I don't shoot Core-Lokt any more, but for the the money, they are great hunting rounds and can certainly take any game that you can hit accurately.

The Ultra version is a bonded bullet, and I don't think you will find any of it for $20. The regular CoreLokt, especially in 180 gr. should be good for anything you hunt except maybe brown bear.

With few exceptions, the only bullet I've used for whitetail hunting over the past several decades (since my first deer in 1964 using a Winchester Model 100, chambered in .308) has been the Remington Core-Lokt. It should go without saying that I continue to use them because they continue to do the job.
