.308 cml/mil ammo

Note that we have determined that there appears to be a definite (however minute) difference in the specs between commercial .308 and nato 762 ammo. pull the projectile on a NEW .308 comml and a NEW .308 nato round and use a digital micrometer to spec it out. You may be surprised. It opens a whole can of cpu worms!

Not really. If they were supposed to be identical do you not think they would be labeled 7.62 nato on both?

In all seriousness, they are different rounds. This is particularly notable when you are shooting match grade rifles like the M1A's. 7.62 nato does not equal .308 winchester. They are different rounds and are meant to be that way. There are several detailed discussions and threads about this topic, so try a quick search on 308 and 7.62 and you will find them.

Basically I would tell you do not put 7.62 nato rounds in 308 winchesters, and visa versa. If you do you are taking admitedly small risk, but it is still a risk.

Good shooting.
