This action is, yes, an improvement over the older ones, but I do not want to shoot 308 in one. I have an excellent K-31 and the 7.5 Swiss round is a great one. Ammo is being imported and is good clean stuff, probably on the order of Federal Premium. Buy it, shoot it - they are extremely nice rifles - if you lived 65 million years ago in the Cretacaeous era you could kill any dinosaur that walked with the 7.5 Swiss!

I agree that such an insert would be pointless; the ones used to fire 7.62 NATO in .30-'06 chambers give plenty of trouble, usually coming out at the wrong time. If they are put in permanently, then the rifle cannot be restored to its original caliber. Further, the 7.5 Swiss case is bigger at the back than the 7.62 NATO, so case swelling will result, never a good idea, and the bolt face is too large for the 7.62 NATO base, reducing the extractor bite.
Another problem is that while the new 7.5 Swiss is in the 50k psi range, and the 7.62 NATO milspec is in the same range, the .308 Winchester commercial ammo runs as high as 65k psi, which is more than I want to put through that K31 or most other older rifles.
So, I agree with Harry, though perhaps not for exactly the same reasons.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm at the crux where I need to buy the dies for it and the chamber conversion idea came up. I've already got the 7.5 dies "wish listed" at Midway and will pick them up. The rifle is a nailer... I enjoy firing it, but I enjoy the price of .308 or 7.62x54R as compared to the gp-11 prices.

Hey ifmayor With some brass from Graf & Sons, Inc. and some dies you would be a lot better off. 100 brass would last a long time, i think there only around $30 and the dies the same. Dam but that's enough for another rifle dam it!!! relaoding stuff or another relic, relaoding stuff or another relic, relaoding stuff or another relic.
