308 case preference?

Are some cases more desirable than others? I have an assortment from PMC/hornady match/rp/lake city/FC/win/CBC/wcc/aff/GGG/mke/ppu/RA/PSO etc. What are your thoughts? Or any facts?

Depends on your level of experience and intent. I'm just a recreational amateur precision shooter and I like LC Nato brass. You can get it used once fired used for cheap money (although there is a lot of prep work involved with o/f nato casings). I also like R-P and Win brass as well. The only brass I don't waste my valuable time with is FC / Federal . That stuff is very soft, and the primer pockets will become too loose only after about 2-3 firings. The master marksmen will comment that Lapua is the best brass , however it's also very expensive brass and my amateur trigger finger is not worthy of Lapua brass LOL

The expanse of brass is not a factor, I have purchased thousands of 30/06 cases for .07 cents each, I have paid .10 cents each for the good stuff. I was in North Carolina at a flea market when I found 1,400 cases for $14.00, that was .01 cent each. I should add, the cases were dirty and each case had a 30 caliber bee in them just a few days short of hatching. The wife was not too happy about the black cloud, the up side, wasp eat insects.

I have a 308 W forming die, it is my favorite, when I want 308 W cases I form them. When I form cases they fit the chamber, then there is the 'loose neck' thing. While forming I tighten the neck.

Finding brass hasn't been an issue. I have approx 6000 cases. The issue is which ones that I've listed are more desirable? I am not an expert marksman by no means but would like to be as precise as possible. So far lapua seems to be the winner, problem is I don't have any of that.

I do not worry about what I do not have. If I want cases with MATCH head stamps all I have to do is choose the year. Then there is NATIONAL MATCH. Some of the best looking brass is Frankford Arsenal Match head stamps and the clandestine cases stamped BM.

They will all work. You must separate them by brand and the military must further be separated by year. When you go to load, the heavier weight ones will require less powder.

I'm a benchrest shooter 308 Cal. Started with Remington & Winchester Brass, mid to low powder charge. Tried some federal FC cases, cases are thicker then most so they shot better with my low range loads. I get 25 reloads with no problems, I'm shooting a bolt action, headspace .001

Lapua is the best 308 brass, Lake city is the best 7.62 brass. Hornady match's primer pockets are very tight, some need swaging. With LC or Lapua I get 15 or so firing out of my AR before the rims get too mangled up. If you anneal the necks they will last a loooooong time.

I have used a fair amount of different head stamps in .308 win; Winchester, PMC, Nosler, CBC, Hornady Match, and various years of LC and WCC brass.

I would give the not to Winchester and Nosler. Hornady Match is good brass but there was a greater variance in the case weights than the Winchester or Nosler cases.

Bought some new Lapua and Hornady match brass because I like starting out with new brass. They were also on sale. I know how many rounds have been fired through them and unlike "once fired brass", I don't have to worry about what they were fired through.
I used to use a lot of Winchester brass but haven't found any lately. I do like the consistency of the Lapua and Hornady, and time will tell how long they will last.
