.308 ammo recommendations

New to this and need to know what .308 ammo would be good for a Savage 10FP? Can you shoot the milsurp stuff in bolt actions or only commercial? Is accuracy vastly different with expensive match ammo or is "regular" okay? (I don't reload) Thanks.

Buy several different brands and try 'em out. Find out what your rifle likes. Every barrel is different so you have to experiment.

Ditto on what Animal said. As far as the milsurp stuff goes Try some of the Hirtenberger its a good load. The British Radway Green is good stuff I'm told I have not had the chance to try it myself yet. The Israeli Match shot well in my rifle. Remember after shooting any milsurp ammo clean your rifle well some of the primers are corrosive(sp?)
The comercial ammo is expensive but you get what you pay for.Federal 168 gr Match is some of the best. Black Hills Match is good too. Good Luck!!

I would suggest looking up J&G's web site. I bought quite a bit of their Berdan primer (non-reloadable) 308 ammunition and I've been quite pleased with it.

308 Radway Green

MIKE14 -
I tried some of the British Radway Green in my "brand new" 1965 Ishapore No 1 Mk 3 2A. It seemed accurate, but maybe weaker than I expected. I zeroed the iron sight to a bullseye at 50 yds. At 100 yards the holes were about 4" below the bullseye. This seemed like more drop than I expected. Also, kick and sound were light, but I was wearing many layers and the deep snow may have absorbed some noise. This was consistent and predictable bullet drop. All in all I liked the round. I think it is 1984 vintage.
