.308 advice

CA legal? How about a Ruger No. 1? BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Seriously though, how about an M1A with a muzzle brake instead of a flash suppressor?

M1A

The M1A is the only choice that I am aware of. Now someone is going to correct me.

I have an M1A and they are as good as you need in my own slanted opinion. Lots of guys rave about the FAL, but take away their mags (as is the case in the PRK), and they lose their edge.

i got a colt sporter long before the ban. afterwards, i recently picked up an m1a standard loaded. i might pick up a fal with the fixed mag and use stripper clips, but i might hold off and save up for a bolt gun in .308.

get an m1a. you won't be sorry. just go in an decide between wood and synthetic. most will argue synthetic is more accurate (less susceptible to weather affecting the stock and barrel bedding), but i chose wood for looks. after handling all synthetic ar15 variants, it's nice to have some wood in the collection.

You can also get "CA-legal" FN/CETMEs which are magazine-fed (10 rounds).

The only modification to these rifles is to HACK-SAW the pistolgrip completely off, thus removing the evil feature. The ones available at gunshows show saw markings where the grip used to be. These are sold for ridiculous prices $1100-2000.

For this type of money, buy a M1A.
