What about 7Rem Mag or 300 Win or 300 Weatherby?
I assume the 458 Win is common in Africa but what about getting 458 ammo other places?
How about the 416 Rem or the 416 Rigby?

What ammo have you seen availible when traveling? Could you find good loads for the caliber [ie solids for the 375's, 458's, & 416's and 180's or 200's for the 300 mags?]

Ammo availability;
I have seen 300 win and 300 Weath in 150 and up from New York to Alaska. 458's about the same. Hell, I found some 416 Rig. in a shop in Idaho. 7mm mag also seems to be real available almost any where. (338's are also)

The big bores are different. I can find 458 and 416 Rig. almost any place that should have them but the 416 Rem is a different story. I have several of my rounds "custom loaded" but even in the hinterlands of southern Illinois I can find some pretty non typical stuff.

There "was" a shop in Nirobi called "Kenya Bunduki" (sp) that was an ammo collectors, shooters dream. (Its been years and I don't know if it is still there) Most of the PH's of the area shopped here. Everything you could possibly want and some you would not want to shoot from the shoulder.

The late Mel Tappan suggested the British .303 was to be found in many parts of the former british empire, and recommended that it be represented in anyone's battery if they find themselves holing up in such a place. I suspect similarities can be drawn for the 7.62 x 54 Moisin-Nagant, or probably any of the classic Mauser cartridges.

International calibers...

Well, these are my candidates, some more, some less...

.22 Long Rifle
.223
.308
.30-06
8mm Mauser
7mm Mauser
.303 British
.375 H&H
.30-30 Win.

I think those are the ones you have the best chance of finding.

Perhaps there are others, but I'm not putting a finger on them right now.
