300WM in a 24" barrel?

Does anyone have first hand experience using the 300WM (Federal 190gr. match) in a 24" long barrel?

Would the loss in velocity SERIOUSLY affect (especially on long range targets, i.e. 1000 yds):
1) accuracy?
2) the cartridge's natural wind resistance?
3) bullet drop?

Would it be too short to allow the powder to fully burn?

Most, if not all, 300WM tactical rifles I've seen use a 26" barrel- I figure there must be a reason for this.

I have a extra 24" match barrel that I was going use to build a 308 but am contemplating a 300WM if performance doesn't suffer too much.

Any info and insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think it reasonable to guess (absent direct comparison via chronograph) that the 24" barrel would deliver muzzle velocities some 100 ft/sec under a 26" barrel.

A Sierra loading handbook's tables of exterior ballistics can answer all your other questions.
