300 Win Mag Ammunition

AR FUN

The main thing that I wanted to ask is. Has anyone had any experience with Hornady's Superformance ammo in 300 Win Mag. I bought a Sako A7 back before Christmas and have yet to put a round down the pipe. I bought the A7 hoping that it would be an accurate light mountain rifle capable of handling the big stuff, predominately elk. I know that each rifle is ammo specific but I have heard good and bad about Hornady's new ammo and wondered if anyone had any real world experience with it. I do not reload which is insane for the amount of shooting that we do but I just can't seem to find the time. I have even gone as far as to start buying the essentials for reloading but have not completed that project either. My job is extremely busy right now but I consider that a blessing in these times. Still planning on reloading at some point in the near future. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks

Greg

I don't have any experience with the 300 ammo, however I have shot lots of hornady in 243 win and 454 casull. Never any problems and accurate as my handloads. In the 243 i get 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards with my rem 700. As you know shooting it in YOUR rifle is the only way to know how your gun will handle it. so what are you waiting for go have some fun.

I've been wanting to try the Hornady Superperformance in my .300 Mag also. Pretty impressive numbers. Have had great luck with Hornady Custom ammo.

Thanks for the replies. It is hard to find anyone that has experience with thiw ammo. I did go ahead and order several different brands to see what the rifle likes. That should also give me a start on brass when I do find time to start loading my own.

I've shot half a box through my 270win and compared it side by side to the federal premium I normally shoot. no difference in felt recoil at all. The shots are about an inch lower at 100 yds than the federal. Groups are exactly the same size though. Haven't had time to stretch her out and check the ballistics at longer ranges though. I did take a doe at 90 yds this year with 1 shot and she dropped in her tracks. So far I'm impressed.

I was testing out different ammo in my Remington 700 XCR II 300 Win Mag and one of the boxes I tried was the Hornady Superformace with 180 gr SST. It grouped really decently at 100 yards, and the chrono readings were very consistent, within 10-15 fps of 2125 out of that 24" barrel.

We have steel gongs set up at 300, 500, 700 and 800 yards. After seeing the chrono readings on that ammo, my buddy convinced me to try some of the longer targets for fun. We took a couple of shots to move the scope to 3 inches high at 100 which we figured would zero us at 300 and I proceeded to hit the 6 inch gong 2 out of 3 times. At this point, I only had 2 rounds left out of the 20, and he wanted me to try at the 500. We calculated 1.33 mils holdover for 500 and I squeezed off the first shot and my buddy called it just wide. I settled myself, waited for a break in the wind and then nailed the 10" gong just off center.

The next day I went ahead and ordered 10 boxes...

300 win mag

I'm pretty certain this is the same as there old Heavy Magnum which is all I've shot in my 300 (180 gr). Kissing groups at 100 yards.
