300 ultra mag at 1000 yards

I was talking to a guy who claimed his 300 ultra mag only had a bullet drop of 44 inches at 1000 yards. Can anyone give me a ballistics chart for this round?

He may be mixing up inches and minutes. Either that or he is zeroed at 700.
Using the hottest, flattest ammo you can load, the rum will drop at least 24" from 100 yard zero by 500.

I ran a quick calculation on iSnipe (great app, by the way)...

I used Nosler's 180gr Accubond factory round. It shows 237 inches of drop at 1000yds (with the rifle zeroed at 100yds). It's showing 47 inches of drop at 550yds (same zero).

If he zeroed his scope at 500yds, he'd have 163 inches of drop at 1000yds, and 45 inches of drop at 725yds.

He would have to have his scope zeroed at 900yds in order to have only 44 inches of drop at 1000. Either he's outright lying, or he doesn't know how far 1000yds is.

I won't even get into the fact that off-the-shelf hunting rifles and scope setups will not even come close to remotely being able to maybe consistently hit a target at 1000yds... The skill of the shooter notwithstanding.

a 240 grain .308 cal VLD bullet at 4300FPS will drop 44'' at 760 yards with a 300 yard zero. Essentially, you'd need an ultra high BC bullet and it'd have to be traveling out of the muzzle somewhere around 4500-5000FPS to get that kind of drop. Maybe with a rail gun...

That 30 caliber 240 could be shot out at 4300 fps from a .30-.50 barrel thirty inches long. If the guy who sized .50 BMG cases down to 30 caliber would provide his dies to make the ammo.

44 inch drop at 1000 is a 4.4 MOA correction. A .308 Win needs a 7 MOA up correction from a 900 yard zero to be on at 1000.
