30 round mags for ARs

I have quite a few different 30 round AR magazines. 90% of them are Magpul. Those are going to be your best bet. I also have Troy battle mags. They work just as well. But when you first buy them taking that protector thing out from on top of the follower is a pain. The ones I got came with little grabbers on the bottom of the magazine that you can use to pull the magazine out of a pouch. I also have a tapco magazine. It works, but it is ugly. It seems bulkier than say the Pmag. Then a few pro mag. Just to see how bad they are. I haven't had issues.

I know, most people will stand by their Magpul mags, and rightly so. But, I bought 10 Troy mags (Battleready Series) on sale for 4.99 ea, about 3-4 months ago. Should have bought more. They are really great mags. I've ran over 100 each of brass and steel cased ammo shooting single shot x 100rds and fast shooting x 100rds. I used them in my gas and piston rifles and they've worked flawlessly. I have 2 mags fully loaded since I got them to test the reliability of their springs. If anyone is interested, and I remember, I'll post up here if they retained their spring tension as designed. I'll Probably test them in March.

Best "bang for the buck" to me is the D&H teflon-coated GI mags that PSA sells for $6.99 to $7.99. Magpul is good, too.

I love the black teflon coated USGI mags with the magpul followers. Those are my go-to mags. Pmags don't drop free from my Spikes tactical lower and most of my mag pouches are military surplus, so fitting two Pmags into a pouch is a lot tighter than USGI mags.

I also have the USGI 30's with the followers changed out to anti tilt ones.
I still have a bunch of Vietnam era 20 rounders that have always worked 100% with nothing changed out in them.

D&H have treated me well.
Other brands of metal (steel, aluminum, and stainless) have treated me well, too.

Magpul... Mixed bag, leaning heavily on the side of failure.

Pmags are great but there are issues when using mag pouches designed for USGI mags.

I also have had great success with the D&H mags from PSA. Anti-tilt follower, never had a failure. They may not withstand being run over by a truck... But who cares? They're like 7 bucks a piece. Plus the coating laser etches really well.

I had a lot of feed issues with Gen 2 and Gen 3 PMags, and they don't allow maximum cartridge overall length. The 30s were notably worse, at least for me, than 20s.

Of the ten or so PMags that I've owned, I think I only have three left - two 20s and a 30 - and I only run them in two ARs (a 5.56 pistol and the dedicated golf ball launcher). The rest have been given away.
