30 rem to .30-30ai

"I have this old gun", knowing the difficulty of finding brass "readily" it seems reaming the existing chamber to the .30-30AI is possible but...only my guess. Am I correct? Or what about going to a .307 Winchester? It is a bolt gun.

Just mulling the possibility.

What kind of bolt gun? It may be possible to modify the bolt face to accept 30-30, maybe not. Depends on the design of the bolt face, extractor, and ejector. But 30-30 is a rimmed round, and rimmed rounds present problems when fed from a stacked magazine due to the rim. The new 6.8SPC has the same rim diameter as the 30 Remington, so that might be a good option if the rifle is strong enough.

Also, if the gun is not capable of taking a 308, don't try to chamber it for 307 Win either, as it has similar working pressures.

Scorch, this my 2nd Rem. Model 30 but this rifle was redone with Pilks thru-out including the curved butt plate-a rather nice job. The action undoubtedly will handle most all pressures. I bought it due to the condition and scarcity and also the caliber but......am checking to see if the little existing chamber could be reamed to another .30 caliber along with working the big extractor to accomodate the round.

Since it is a Model 30, and plenty strong for anything you are likely to feed it, you could chamber it for 308 Winchester. Rimless will work better than a rimmed round like the 30-30.

I had read that there was some 30 Remington brass produced recently, maybe you can locate some of that if you decide you want to keep it original.

appreciate the pointers Scorch. just fired my first 5 shots with RL15 and 170 Partitions avg. 2160fps--sure is like the .30-30, made the rounds using the .30-30 seater die. I may just look into finding me some brass and dies.
