30 Carbine: Plainfield; Any Problems ??

I was given a 30 Carbine ( copy of US Issue ) .

I have been reading about the problems with Universal Carbines in regards
to Firing out of lock up.

Is anyone aware of any problems with the Plainfield version ???

Also, any comments from Plainfield owners appreciated...

My experience with the Plainfield has been positive...A few Miss-fires, all
same ammo source ( box of 50 ), Other than that it shoots ok.
Thanks..

Plainfields are generally considered to be the best of the commercial copies. Quality went down a bit on the later ones after they started to make more of their own internal parts, earlier ones were generally made from USGI parts on a new barreled receiver. What do you mean by mis-fires? Click but no bang or feeding/extraction issues? I have one that functions flawlessly even with the cast pot metal trigger group that Plainfield made, though I did replace that trigger group with an all USGI one because all of the internal parts were cast and the trigger felt horrible.

Thanks Guys: The miss fires were 'good' primer hits, no ignition....

I have been reading the 'notes' on universal and USGI carbines
( there was a universal for sale locally, so I was doing some research on it )
for firing pin extension with bolt out of battery.... I was wondering if the
plainfield had the same design/problems as the universal...
From the replies, it appears not, they being built the same way as USGI...

The miss fires were from the 1st box of ammo I bought, cheap stuff,
can't remember if PMC or an off brand,
Also gun had not been used for many years before I got it...
just now concerned about 'out of battery firing'.
I will try the empty casing, only primer test, but from your input
I expect the gun to be ok,,,

Question: When I Dry fire and hold the trigger, pull the bolt back,
release trigger, slide bolt half closed, pull trigger and continue to close bolt
the hammer drops just as bolt reaches closed ( before lugs rotate ).
Now as I understand the operation, this is normal as the firing pin is not
alienged untill bolt is rotated and locked. ( The Universal carbine does not block the firing pin, bad ) Is this correct ?????

Thanks again....

OK, went to range, 100 rounds fired.

5 Fail to Fire, NO marks on primer, but could hear Hammer drop,
SO Firing Pin disconnect is working ???

Bolt was closed ( But May have not been fully closed )
3 Miss fires 1st round from loaded mag.... other 2 from 30 round clip....

Think I need a good cleaning...

Ammo, Korean surplus....
