30/30 Lever Barrel Lifespan

How many rounds on average before accuracy begins to suffer? Which lasts longer micro-grooved Marlin or normal rifled Winchester? Who makes the hottest factory 30/30? 35Rem?

For the .30-30 I think it may be Winchester. They have a Power Point-Plus. It almost seems like a +P for the .30-30. I have not fired any of these yet and have asked if anyone else has here in the past, no one answered. Go to Winchester's web site and you can see the differences in the ballistics between the regular Power Point and the Plus version. If you get some and shoot them please report back here and let us other lever fans know how you liked 'em. Thanks and good luck.

30-30 barrels

Tom,

As with all rifles the hotter the ammo the quicker the wear on the barrel. I've been shooting Speer 180 FN at about 2300 fps in my Marlin 35 Rem since 1971. This is my hunting rifle and only gets a hundred rounds a year. The barrel will last as long as I do. My wife shoots 130gr cast lead from her 30-30 at about 1800 fps. The barrel shows no wear, and she could shoot a thousand rounds a year with the same results. The low operating pressures of these cartridges extend barrel life when compared to something like the 7mm Rem Mag or even hotter rounds like the 30/378.
