30/30 ballistics?

Which is the lighter (less powerful) 30/30 round, 150 or 170 grain? I have an older rifle that I want to shoot light rounds out of, but I am not well versed on ballistics.

Both are equally as powerful. One just as a slightly heavier bullet. All factory 30-30 loads are safe to shoot in any barrel made for smokeless powder.

Thank you sir, I am new to rifles and was not sure. A friend left me a Marlin 30AS and a Marlin 1893, and I was worried about the 1983.

The 1893 is a weaker design and the few I had seemed to stretch the cases to far for comfort. The model 30 will handle any factory load, but I would restrict the 1893 to a diet of factory cast loads for cowboy action shooters.

There are a few manufactuers of this cast ammo but the only one I can think of at this time is a company called ULTRAMAX and they are available from MIDWAYUSA.
